The Executive Council of the Illinois Public Health Association extends sincere appreciation to Dale Galassie for his leadership as President-Elect. Mr. Galassie was recently appointed by Governor Quinn to the Illinois Health Facilities Fund and thus resigned as IPHA President-Elect in March 2010. PRESIDENT-ELECT QUALIFICATIONS To be eligible for election a person must: - Be a current member of the Illinois Public Health Association.
- Be actively working to improve the public’s health in Illinois.
- Possess a keen interest and experience in improving public health in Illinois.
- Have worked in public health leadership.
- Have strong interpersonal and public speaking skills.
- Have enthusiasm, motivation, and dedication to advancing IPHA’s mission to improve the practice of public health through leadership in and advancement of the practice of public health.
DUTIES President-Elect:The newly elected President-Elect will serve the remainder of the current term beginning July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011. Once in office, the President will serve a two year term ending June 30, 2013. In preparation for assuming leadership, the President-Elect shall attend all meetings* of the Executive Committee and Executive Council, serve as Chair of the Association Executive Committee, and become familiar with Association objectives, functions, and reports of all Committees. The President-Elect shall attend the American Public Health Association (APHA) President-Elects meeting and the APHA Annual Meeting with travel reimbursed by IPHA. The President, as Executive officer, shall perform the usual and customary duties that pertain to the office of President. These duties include, but are not limited to: presiding at all meetings* of the Association and the Executive Committee and Executive Council, calling regular or special meetings of the Council, presenting the Annual Budget to the Council, making appointments to IPHA committees, and serving as the Association spokesperson. The President shall attend the American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting with travel reimbursed by IPHA. *The Executive Committee meets by conference call on a quarterly basis. The Executive Council meets five to six times annually, with most meetings held at the IPHA office in Springfield, Illinois. IPHA does not reimburse for travel expenses to attend the Executive Council meeting.
