The mission of the Illinois Maternal and Child Health Coalition (IMCHC) is to improve the health of women, families and children in Illinois. Its main objective is to identify and overcome the major barriers, which include poverty and racism, that prevent achievement of maternal and child health and well-being. Founded in 1988, the Coalition has provided leadership on maternal and child issues for over 20 years.
We seek an Executive Director to give direction and leadership toward the achievement of IMCHC’s philosophy, mission, strategy and its annual goals and objectives.
The Executive Director will be responsible for the implementation of the strategic goals and objectives of the organization and, with the Board Chairperson, will enable the Board to fulfill its governance function. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors.
Major responsibilities include: Management and Program Implementation ? Provide leadership in the development of the Coalition’s statement of vision, mission, and overarching goals ? Develop annual objectives and set priorities ? Oversee the development and implementation of strategies, plans and budgets necessary to achieve stated objectives and overarching goals ? Ensure ongoing excellence in all programs overseen by the Coalition and assure rigorous program evaluation that is data driven ? Oversee the development of policy on key MCH issues particularly in the areas which have been determined to be priorities ? Effectively lead, develop and retain a high-performance IMCHC staff team ? Provide leadership, vision and a working environment that encourages professionalism, dedication and successful completion of annual objectives and overarching goals.
Fundraising and Financial Management ? Recommend yearly budget for board approval and prudently manage organization's resources within those budget guidelines according to current laws and regulation ? Oversee fundraising planning and implementation, including administration of fundraising records and documentation ? Identify resource requirements, research funding sources and establish strategies to approach funders ? Supervise and review the writing of grants and submission of proposals
Community and Public Relations ? Serve as the main spokesperson for the Coalition and assure that it is consistently presented with a positive image to relevant stakeholders ? Deepen and refine all aspects of communication to create a stronger brand for the Coalition ? Promote collaboration with and among the Coalition’s members to address the needs of members and the mission and goals of the Coalition ? Develop an advocacy strategy to educate public administrators and legislators at the national, state and local level about key MCH issues ? Maintain the necessary contacts to keep abreast of emerging issues of significance to the Coalition and its members
Board Administration and Support ? Develop, recruit and maintain a strong board of directors ? Support operations and administration of the board by advising and informing board members, providing an interface between the board and staff, and building board involvement in Coalition activities ? Propose agendas for the board of directors reflecting issues, opportunities, and priorities ? Serve as ex-officio of each board committee ? Ensure the provision of staff support for board committees
The Executive Director should possess the following background and characteristics: ? A Bachelor's degree and 10 years related experience. Master's degree preferred ? A strong commitment to social justice and social change ? Track record of effective leadership in a not-for-profit organization ? Experience in women and children’s health policy ? Past success working with a board of directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships ? Excellence in organizational management with the ability to recruit, manage, and develop high-performance teams ? Experience in developing and managing budgets ? Successful fundraising efforts with government and private foundations ? Effective programmatic and fiscal management of government funded projects ? Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a persuasive communicator ? Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people and coalitions ? Knowledge of the Illinois political landscape
