Americorps

IPHA AmeriCorps is pleased to announce that we are currently seeking host site locations for the 2009 Summer AmeriCorps Program.  Members will provide 450 hours of service to health agencies from May 20 through August 14, 2009.  The IPHA AmeriCorps program provides trained, dedicated people to help meet locally identified needs in local health organizations across the state.  Members participate in community service through health promotion and outreach for programs serving youth, women, children and families; volunteer coordination; and assistance with community emergency preparedness.  The purpose of the AmeriCorps program is for members to gain valuable public health work experience, while host sites and the communities they serve benefit from the services the AmeriCorps members provide.

Illinois AmeriCorps*State Programs are funded through a grant provided by the Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service and the Corporation for National and Community Service.  IPHA is very pleased with the level of value-added activities our members have provided to health departments since the program’s inception in 2003.  We are looking forward to continuing these services and strengthening the Illinois Public Health workforce.

For their service, members will receive a living allowance, education award, and professional development. Your agency’s investment for an AmeriCorps member will be $2,000. Recruitment and selection of members will be a joint effort between the local health organizations and IPHA.  Once host sites are selected, detailed information on the recruitment process will be distributed.
