The Illinois Public Health Association (IPHA),a not-for-profit voluntary organization, with funding provided by the Corporation for
National and Community Service, has openings for AmeriCorps members. Members will be housed with local health departments
and community-based HIV agencies across Illinois. This is a fulltime, 11-month position and includes a monthly stipend,
education award, health insurance and professional development opportunities. Successful candidates will have knowledge
and practical experience with public health issues; strong leadership, organization, written and oral communication and
computer skills.
AmeriCorps
Overview Since 1994, more than 500,000 men and women have served in AmeriCorps, providing needed
assistance to millions of Americans to meet critical needs in education, public safety, health, homeland security, and the environment.
AmeriCorps members serve through nonprofits, public agencies, and faith-based organizations, helping to build a culture of citizenship,
service, and responsibility.
The
Illinois Public Health AmeriCorps members help meet locally identified
needs at health departments across the state through community service
in the following focus areas: health promotion and outreach for programs
serving youth, women, children and families; volunteer coordination;
and assistance with community emergency preparedness.

Living
Allowance: $11,400 for an 11 month period. Paid in equal amounts each month on a bi-weekly basis.
Education Award: $4,725 for full time members. Must complete 1700 hours in order to receive award.
May be used to pay back qualified student loans or attend an institution of higher education.
Loan Deferment: Members do not have to pay back student loans while serving (this in not automatic)
Child
Care: Available to income-eligible, fulltime members. Payments
made directly to certified providers. (Must meet eligibility requirements)
Health
Care: Provided to full-time members who are not otherwise covered.
Medicaid recipients may NOT waive health care coverage.
