Illinois Early Childhood Intervention Clearinghouse
The Illinois Early Childhood Intervention Clearinghouse has been providing library and information services to parents, providers, educators, policymakers, students, and others interested in early intervention issues throughout Illinois since 1986. Through its mission, the Clearinghouse is dedicated "to make available state-of-the-art library and information resources related to early childhood intervention to the citizens of Illinois."
The core components of the Clearinghouse are to:
- Continue the development of a unique database and a resource library of appropriate early childhood and disability research and practices;
- Disseminate state-of-the-art information and resources through its lending library, quarterly newsletter, exhibits, presentations, and computerized networks; and
- Support the activities of the statewide implementation efforts, including the Bureau of Early Intervention, the Illinois Interagency Council on Early Intervention, Child and Family Connections, technical assistance systems and personnel preparation activities.
The Resource Library contains books, periodicals, audiovisual, and other reference materials for loan or viewing in the library on information such as health, educational and developmental concerns of infancy and early childhood. In addition, the Clearinghouse participates in local, state and regional library networks and provides interlibrary loan services.
Early Intervention, the quarterly newsletter of the Clearinghouse, has taken on an entirely new focus, directed toward parents. The newsletter offers information and news for parents interested in their child's growth and development, including learning references, notice of family events, opportunities for parents and professionals to submit articles for publication, and much more! The Clearinghouse hopes that this new tool for parents is valued as an effective communication link for up-to-date information about the Clearinghouse and early intervention issues.
As an added service, a new website for the Clearinghouse is now online at www.eiclearinghouse.org. The site offer visitors, especially parents, the opportunity to learn more about the Clearinghouse library and information services, access bibliographies and other library catalogs, and link to a wealth of early intervention resources.
The Clearinghouse looks forward to an exciting year of providing new and improved services for parents, in support of the early intervention system.
The Early Intervention Clearinghouse is a project of the Illinois Public Health Association and the Illinois Department of Human Services.
