Understanding the Individual Education Program (IEP): How CHWs Can Assist Families and Schools with Navigation
Description
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) may include things such as death of a sibling, witnessing domestic violence, the COVID pandemic, and living with a disability. Students with disabilities are legally entitled to receive special education instruction, supports, and services at school. The Individual Education Program (IEP) is crucial for helping children with different learning styles and needs find success in school. This LnL will review the basics of IEPs and 504 plans and how they are created. CHWs and other professionals will learn how they can make families aware of IEPs and 504 plans, assist families in navigating and obtaining services, and work with families to achieve success.
