Overview

This presentation explores the origins and symptoms of secondary trauma, compassion fatigue, and burnout in helping profession providers.  The impact of cultural competence and the role of organization leadership in understanding and preventing these issues with staff will be emphasized.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define and differentiate the terms secondary trauma, compassion fatigue and burnout.
  • Identify signs and symptoms of secondary trauma, compassion fatigue and burnout in staff.
  • Describe the significance of cultural competency related to secondary trauma, compassion fatigue and burnout.
  • Identify mechanisms of prevention.
