Patrick B. McGrath, Ph.D., is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and currently serves as the Head of Clinical Services for NOCD, leading their teletherapy services across the United States to help people with OCD. He also serves as a Lead Psychologist at AMITA Health and is the President of Anxiety Centers of Illinois and of OCD Midwest.
Dr. McGrath has given over 800 presentations on the treatment of Anxiety Disorders, OCD, and PTSD at schools, hospitals, private practices and universities. He has authored a book on OCD (The OCD Answer Book) and a stress management manual (Don’t Try Harder, Try Different), as well as numerous articles for peer-reviewed journals.
Overview: Anxious individuals are notoriously great at doing things to make their anxiety go away as soon as possible, even if that is at the cost of better performance in the future. The goal of this workshop is to learn how to identify what anxiety is in a way that makes sense to anxious individuals and then help to motivate them to start to do something different than what they have been doing. That is how behavior changes, and there is an opportunity for a change in thoughts and feelings as well.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify key cognitive distortions that are prevalent in maintaining stress.
- Learn the basics of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy for anxiety.
- Practice exercises that can help to challenge anxiety right away.
Continuing Education Credits:
2.0 CEU’s are available for LCSW, LCPC, LSW and LPC
Following the event, attendees will receive an email with a link to the online evaluation to complete. Once the evaluation response window closes, CEU certificates will be emailed. This process takes approximately 14 days following the event.
This training is provided by the Community Mental Health Board of Oak Park Township and Riveredge Hospital.
