IDD Provider Networking Group Webinar - The Pandemic: An Opportunity for Greatness
November 20, 2020 - 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Professional development workshops are sponsored by a partnership between the Community Mental Health Board of Oak Park Township, Riveredge Hospital, and Streamwood Behavioral Healthcare System.
Presenter: Leanne Mull, MHA, QIDP, Blue Tower Solutions, Inc.
Overview: Two weeks after community day services closed, Blue Tower Solutions Inc. launched weekly meetings for people with intellectual disabilities in Illinois. Over time it evolved from a presentation to weekly conversations about the topics that are important to the people. Weekly participants included people in ICF's and CILA as well as those who live alone or with family. It became clear that people are anxious for information and they miss their friends, not necessarily their day program. With the more flexible funding and continued social distancing rules in place, it is our job to help people understand what is happening and adapt to what can be a fantastic opportunity. Yes, people will grieve their old habits but when we provide people with experiences, they may enjoy the opportunity.
