Leading Outside the Lines:

Leadership Through the Generations

Friday, November 18, 2022 - 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Professional development workshops are sponsored by a partnership between the
Community Mental Health Board of Oak Park Township, Riveredge Hospital, and
Streamwood Behavioral Healthcare System.

Workshop Details:

Presenter: Amie Burke, BCBA

Bio: Amie Burke, BCBA, received her Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis and Therapy from Southern Illinois University. Amie is currently serving as the Statewide Clinical Director for the Illinois Crisis Prevention Network (ICPN) and oversees the Rockford, Chicago, and Springfield offices. Amie has been with ICPN for over seven years and has been in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) for 30 years. Her experience encompasses all levels of disabilities across the lifespan.

Workshop Overview: The workplace is one environment where various generations come together. This workshop will help you understand the various generations present at work, what motivates each of them, the strengths they possess, and how each generation fits into a different working style. While having various cultures in one workplace can present communication problems and conflicts, the benefits of such a variety in the workplace outweigh it. Learning how to deal with the generation gap at work will help you become a better manager or co-worker and help you motivate and retain staff.  This workshop provides examples for those working within the intellectual and developmental disability (I/DD) field, however the information can be applied to any work environment.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the different generations.
  2. Discuss the factors influencing the working style and values of each generation.
  3. Identify strategies to bridge the generation gap in the work environment and discuss tips to motivate and retain staff.
