APHA mourns gun violence tragedy in Las Vegas

Statement from Georges Benjamin, MD, executive director, American Public Health Association
Washington, D.C., October 2, 2017 – “The American Public Health Association expresses our sincere condolences to those affected by the national tragedy that took place last night in Las Vegas. In this time of unbearable grief for victims and their families, we offer our sympathies to those harmed by this senseless act of violence.
“We also offer our support and gratitude to the first responders who worked quickly to treat and comfort those affected last night.
“This terrible tragedy is another reminder that we still need to address the role of gun violence in our country. Individuals everywhere deserve laws that protect them from random acts of violence like this one. Comprehensive gun safety laws are a key component of violence prevention and a public health priority, and we stand ready to work with lawmakers to treat this issue with the urgency it deserves.”
