Lupus in the Heartland Symposium

The Lupus Symposium will focus on addressing identification of lupus diagnosis and care, advances in research, significance of lupus among special populations, lupus patient education and an integrative team approach to patient care.


Target Audience: Physicians specialized in Internal Medicine and other practices likely to examine lupus patients, medical students, interns and residents; front line health providers working in FQHCs, local public health departments; advanced practice nurses, counselors and therapists, medical students, other allied health professionals practicing in urban and rural areas of Central and Southern Illinois.


Symposium learning objectives:

1) Describe lupus symptoms, signs, evolution and treatment of a complex auto-immune disease

2) Determine the burden of disease

3) Learn from challenges of complex disease management in less resourceful areas

4) Discuss inter-disciplinary models of care and patient centered approaches.


Keynote Speaker: Rosalind Ramsey-Goldman, MD, DrPH Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine. Solovy Arthritis Research Society Professor of Medicine.


Travel and lodging: Travel reimbursement will be offered to participants traveling over 60 miles from Springfield and lodging to those located at over 80 miles from the conference site.
