Changes to Expedited Partner Therapy (EPT) law in Illinois

Effective January 1, 2022, the Illinois Sexually Transmissible Diseases Control Act will include Trichomoniasis Vaginalis as a covered STD within EPT law.  EPT allows providers to provide prescription therapy to their patient’s sex partners when their patient has tested positive and is being treated for gonorrhea, chlamydia, and/or trichomoniasis.  The CDC recommends EPT as the Gold Standard for STD care.  Improving treatment for trichomoniasis reduces risk of STI/HIV transmission, reduces pre-term labor, and improves sexual health equity.
