Last week, the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) launched its new and improved IDPH Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) access and assistance website, www.PrEP4Illinois.com.
PrEP is an FDA-approved, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention-recommended daily prevention pill for HIV-negative people who are especially vulnerable to getting HIV. Taken daily, PrEP is up to 99% effective at preventing HIV.
IDPH now joins the growing ranks of health departments offering tailored client navigation for PrEP services, which include education, medication access, referral to PrEP-friendly clinicians, and most importantly, financial screening and enrollment into the appropriate payer source.
Most helpful is a feature that is designed to help those interested in PrEP fill out the application for the Gilead co-payment or full payment assistance.
The AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) and our partners want to applaud IDPH on this launch and their commitment to PrEP. We thank them for their hard work and dedication, and look forward to working with them in the future to expand PrEP awareness and access throughout Illinois.
